Trial postponed for Waco man accused of threatening to kill woman

YORK – A jury trial has been postponed for Sean Hoffman, 47, of York, who has been accused of threatening to kill a woman while a York County Sheriff’s deputy was allegedly listening to the entire conversation.

Hoffman was scheduled for a status hearing this week in York County District Court, where he is charged with terroristic threats, a Class 3A felony which carries a possible maximum sentence of three years in prison with 18 months of post-release supervision and/or a $10,000 fine.

Hoffman’s attorney was allowed to withdraw from the case and another attorney was appointed. The trial has been postponed until the fall.

According to court documents, a deputy with the sheriff’s department met with a woman who came to the YSO in person. The deputy’s affidavit says she was crying and saying Hoffman wanted her to perjure herself in court regarding a protection order violation. She also said she was being threatened by him and he was threatening to kill her dog as well.

While the deputy was speaking with the woman, her phone rang, according to court documents. The deputy said in his affidavit, “I could see the caller ID said Sean Hoffman. She answered the phone and the man started to talk. I was able to recognize the voice as being Sean Hoffman. He started to yell at her and call her derogatory names. He said she was supposed to help him and they had a plan for court this morning. (The victim) said she wasn’t going to perjure herself. She told Sean not to kill her dog and replied that it was already done. He then demanded her to come pick him up, then he would spare the dog’s life. Sean then stated for her to come pick him or ‘the dog’s dead.’ She said she couldn’t and he called a ‘worthless ***.’ During the conversation, Sean said to her, ‘I’ll kill you.’ She then hung up the phone. I overheard the whole conversation and asked if she felt threatened and she said she did.”

The deputy also says the woman was scared to go pick up her dog because “if Sean is there then he would assault her and he would kill her dog.”
