YPD, county attorney on scene of house fire investigation in York

UPDATE – Newborn baby tragically killed in York house fire

YORK — The York Police Department and York County Attorney Gary Olson are currently on the scene of what was earlier reported as a house fire; YPD Captain Russ Coffey said the investigation into the situation is ongoing as they are waiting for a state fire marshal to arrive.

He said at 4:09 p.m., the York Fire Department and the York Police Department were dispatched to the report of a house fire at 624 W. Fifth Street. Captain Coffey said the fire department quickly extinguished the fire.

There were no transports of patients made to the hospital, Captain Coffey said; but the presence of Olson, who is also the county coroner, suggests a tragedy took place although that cannot be confirmed and the police department did not suggest anything of that nature to be the case, at this point.

“We are very early into the investigation,” Captain Coffey said. “As soon as the fire marshal arrives, we will continue the investigation and release information as it becomes available.”

While it can be seen a fire occurred, the structure still stands and as he said, the fire department was able to extinguish the situation early.

“At this point, we are not able to issue any more information, but we will later, as it becomes available,” Captain Coffey said.
