Charges amended against Henderson man to one high level child sexual assault felony

YORK – Alexander L. Gonzales, 31, of Henderson, has pleaded not guilty to an amended charge in a case involving the alleged sexual assault of a child.

Initially he pleaded not guilty to three Class 3A felonies (for the child abuse), a Class 3A felony (third degree sexual assault) and a Class 4 felony (possession of a controlled substance).

This week, during a status hearing in York County District Court, the charges were amended to one count of sexual assault of a child, which is a Class 1B felony. He pleaded not guilty to the new charge.

According to court documents, the case began when a criminal investigator with the York County Sheriff’s Department met with the county attorney’s office and officials from Nebraska Health and Human Services, regarding the accusations of sexual assault.

Following that investigation, Gonzales was arrested and a search warrant was served. According to the affidavit, investigators allegedly found a very dirty residence as well as prescription drugs without a label.

No other details about the case can be published due to the graphic nature of the accusations.

A jury trial has been scheduled in York County District Court for late September.
