Woman dies after accident on Highway 34

HAMILTON COUNTY – The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department is reporting a woman died Thursday, May 23, as a result of an accident on Highway 34, between Roads Y and Z.

The sheriff’s department says it received numerous 911 calls of a single vehicle rollover accident at that location. “Deputies found a 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee was eastbound on Highway 34, left the roadway and entered the north ditch. The vehicle then rolled several times, eventually striking a grain bin.

“During this crash, the driver, Hannah Petersen, 39, of Grand Island, was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported to York General Hospital where she was pronounced deceased,” the sheriff’s department says.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Nebraska State Patrol, Hampton Fire Department and Aurora Fire Department.
