Arraignment held for man caught with 62 pounds of marijuana

YORK COUNTY – Arraignment proceedings were held this week, in York County District Court, for Dejuan Nelms, 46, of Spokane Valley, Washington, who was allegedly caught with 62 pounds of high-grade marijuana during a traffic stop in York County.

According to court documents, a trooper with the Nebraska State Patrol stopped Nelms on Interstate 80 for a traffic violation.

During the traffic stop, the trooper conducted a license and criminal history check. According to court documents, the troper found he had a criminal history and an active federal warrant. His criminal history includes possession with intent to deliver cocaine, receiving stolen property, assault with a firearm on a person, parole violation, domestic violence, robbery and firearm violations. Nelms was arrested.

Nelms denied consent for troopers to search the vehicle. A York County Sheriff’s deputy arrived, with a county canine, which alerted to the presence of illegal substances.

A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted. According to the court affidavit, troopers found 60 heat-sealed bags with approximately 61.8 pounds of marijuana inside. They also found 3.4 pounds of THC wax.

He has been charged with delivery of a controlled substance, a Class 2A felony; possession of more than one pound of marijuana, a Class 4 felony; and having no drug tax stamp.
