York University president announces resignation, to take new position

YORK — York University President Sam Smith has announced he has accepted a new position as president of Mount Dora Christian Academy and Children’s Home effective July 1, according to an announcement made by the university.

A statement by Dr. Smith said, “As my professional journey takes a new turn, I am excited to share that I have accepted a new position as the president of Mount Dora Christian Academy and Children’s Home starting July 1. My wife, Lisa, and I believe deeply that this is a calling from God, an opportunity to utilize the skills honed during my time at York University to serve another esteemed institution. While our enthusiasm for this new chapter is tempered by our love for you all and the incredible mission of York University, we are confident that the best days for YU are still to come, grounded in our shared faith and commitment to service.”

Board of Trustees Chair, R. Wayne White, expressed his gratitude on behalf of all the trustees for Smith’s exceptional service to York University.

“The Board of Trustees of York University wishes to express its greatest appreciation to Dr. Sam Smith for his work with the university over the last four years. It has not always been easy, but there have been many impressive successes along the way that we have experienced under his leadership. We wish Dr. Smith and his family great success in the endeavors that lie ahead at Mount Dora Christian Academy and Children’s Home. We pray they find themselves serving the Lord as they have here at York University. We know they will be a blessing to those with whom they work, so we solicit your prayers on their behalf.

“In the meantime, the YU Board of Trustees has already begun its work in finding the person God has prepared to be our next leader as president of York University. We are confident that our next president will be able to guide us to our next level of excellence as we face the future together. We ask that everyone who loves and respects the university will be in prayer for our board as they search for new leadership. Prayer as well for the one who will eventually become our president. In all things, God will be our guide.

“While the York University campus is deeply saddened about President Smith’s departure, it is our aim to celebrate the many amazing successes that have occurred during his tenure. Please be praying for his family and the York community during this transition.”
