York City Administrator to give commencement address for York University

YORK — Dr. Sue Crawford will give the commencement address at the York University graduation ceremony on Saturday, April 27. More than 100 students are expected to receive their diplomas during the spring commencement ceremony, which will be held at 10 a.m. in the Campbell Activity Center (corner of 10th and Mayhew Ave.) on the York University campus.

Dr. Crawford has served as the city administrator of York since April 2021, working with city leaders and community partners, including York University, to strengthen community collaboration in York. She received her B.S. in political science from Truman State University (Kirksville, Mo.) and completed her Ph.D. at Indiana University Bloomington in the fields of American government and public policy, with a concentration in public management. She is a professor emeritus at Creighton University where she taught from 1995 to 2021. While at Creighton, her research and teaching included work on religion and politics, civic engagement, public policy, and health policy. Dr. Crawford represented the 45th District in the Nebraska Legislature from 2012 to 2020, emphasizing health, veteran and military family, and economic issues. Bills she sponsored and passed included legislation that removed regulatory burdens for nurse practitioners in the state, honored the unclaimed remains of veterans, and expanded access to Medicaid for individuals with disabilities.

The commencement ceremony at York University will run approximately two hours and will include a performance by the University Singers in addition to Dr. Crawford’s comments.

The doors will open one hour prior to the ceremony for guests. No tickets are required. The event is open to the public, with seating on a first come, first served basis. No reserved seating is permitted, with the exception of seating arranged before the event for individuals that need special accommodations. If you need to make such arrangements, please contact Tori Odom at tmodom@york.edu at least 48-hours prior to the event.
