York police, fire respond to situation on E. Sixth Street

YORK — York Police and York Fire responded to a situation involving a fire at 404 East Sixth Street Wednesday night, April 11, at 8:30 p.m.

York Police Captain Russ Coffey said, “officers responded to a report of a visible fire. When officers arrived on scene, they located a fire in an uncovered burn pit. The fire continued to a point it became out of control for the homeowner when it spread to a few ornamental trees. For safety and precautionary measures, neighboring residents were temporarily evacuated.”

York firefighters responded and quickly put out the fire so no homes or structures were damaged.

Captain Coffey said the owner of the residence was issued a citation for multiple burning/fire ordinance violations.
