CASA For York County advocate receives award

YORK – “Sherry is the most kind-hearted individual I have ever known. She holds so much space for the children she serves, and her dedication is unmatched. The phrase ‘above and beyond’ doesn’t even begin to explain the scope of her involvement in the lives of these children. Sherry has been at dance recitals, Christmas concerts, school programs, soccer games and parent teacher conferences when no one else was. The children she serves know that she is in their corner and will not go away like so many others have. I hear all the time the impact she had in her years as an educator, and it’s clear she hasn’t lost that passion to serve,” said CASA for York County Executive Director Elizabeth Hain in nominating Sherry Tonniges of Gresham for the 2024 Nebraska CASA Dedication Award.

On April 5, Tonniges was honored with that award at Nebraska CASA’s CASAblanca Gala held in Lincoln.

Tonniges has served York County children as a CASA for over 10 years and says she greatly appreciates the respect and care Deputy York County Attorney Chris Johnson and Judge Lynelle Homolka show for children who have been abused and neglected.
