York police, York fire and rescue respond to semi/car accident at interchange Tuesday afternoon

YORK — At approximately 1:40 p.m., Tuesday afternoon, March 12, the York Police Department and the York Fire Department responded to the report of a semi/car accident at the York interchange.

YPD officers, at the scene, said a southbound vehicle was proceeding through a green light when a northbound semi turned to the west to take the westbound onramp onto Interstate 80, despite having a red light.

YPD officers said the driver of the vehicle was being checked out by first responders but she hadn’t seemed to sustain serious injuries, although her vehicle was very heavily damaged.

They said the semi driver was not injured, but a substantial amount of fuel was leaking from the semi, which prompted the dispatch of another fire truck to the scene.

Despite the damage and debris, both vehicles ended up out of the driving lanes, so traffic has been moving through smoothly.

Neither driver was identified and no other information was provided as all responders are still on the scene.
