Arrest warrant issued for defendant who failed to appear for sentencing in drug case

YORK – When Noel I. Hoig, 54, of Omaha, failed to show up for sentencing this week in York County District Court, a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.

This isn’t his first failure to appear in York County District Court, as he also earlier failed to show up his arraignment.

He was initially arrested when a York police officer saw him make a left turn on a red light at the York interchange. The officer could smell the odor of marijuana and a probable cause search was conducted. The officer found four containers labeled as containing marijuana, two containers of concentrated THC gummies, a pipe for smoking marijuana and an open bottle of Johnnie Walker Black.

He was initially charged with a Class 4 felony but that was reduced to a Class 1 misdemeanor as part of an earlier plea agreement.

His new sentencing date will be set once he’s taken into custody.
