Intricate woodworking display open to the public at Kilgore Library

YORK – A beautiful display is currently open to the public at the Kilgore Library, showcasing the intricate woodworking art of Desiree Hajny.

Hajny lives in York, yet her resume exudes international work.

She worked as an arts educator at Rock County High School, from 1970-1985. From 1986-2020, she was an instructor of wood sculpture for multiple groups in North America, conducting seminars in 34 state and in three Canadian provinces.

Hajny has authored nine books and been a contributing author to seven others (with books marketed on three continents). Her work has been featured on the cover of 11 periodicals in North America and Europe.

Her work, in competitions throughout the years, has won 26 Best of Show Awards, 18 Viewers’ Choice Awards and well over 150 first place awards.

She has been named Woodcarving Illustrated Carver of the Year, she has been a contributor to Woodcarving Magazine in Great Britain, she’s a founding member of the Caricature Carvers of America, was a best of show winner at the International Woodcarver’s Congress, has been a featured exhibitor at the International Woodcarver’s Congress and she has been a judge/presenter for the Nebraska Artist Competition.

Hajny has had commissions at Disney Animal Kingdom in Orlando, Florida; she has had 52 original wood sculpture designs reproduced for marketing in North America by Mill Creek Studios in California; and collectors have included golf legend Jack Nicklaus and country music entertainer Barbara Mandrell.

Hajny’s work is showcased at this time and the public is encouraged to take a look at her beautiful, unique artwork.
