Kilgore Memorial Library — Try something new

By Stephanie Rodenborg, Friends of the Library

It is easy to say that we have already had a crazy year. We got piles of snow and then three weeks later it is in the 50s! Well, here at the Kilgore Memorial Library, we have had a little bit of a crazy year to start with as well. There are so many fun days to celebrate and new genres to try. We have many fiction books to look at, but have you looked in the nonfiction section recently? My children have enjoyed reading books about different holidays (hint: Presidents Day and St. Patrick’s Day are coming up) and about the American Revolutionary War. I have been asked to help look for the nonfiction companions to some of the Magic Tree House books on our next expedition to the library. Also April is National Poetry Month — maybe try to read a book of poems from Shel Silverstein.

We have so many clubs going on throughout the month. We have Little Sprouts (this is creative crafting) on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m., Family Story Time with Mrs. B on Fridays at 10:30 a.m., and LEGOclub on Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. We will also have our Friends of the Library meetings on the second Wednesday of the even months. The Kilgore Memorial Library adopted a cow and one Story Time a month is dedicated to the cow!

Our Community Book Club meets once a month on the last Friday of the month at noon. Our meeting for the “Think Again” book is on February 23, at noon. Our March 29 book is “Radical Candor: Be a Kick-Ass Boss Without Losing Your Humanity” and the April 26 book is “The Coaching Habit: Say less, ask more and change the way lead.” Come join us at the Kilgore Memorial Library for any of our meetings or just to find more books. Don’t forget about all our digital resources like Libby, Kanopy and Blackstone Unlimited. Even with new changes, we still have old favorites like the Summer Reading Program. Be on the lookout for information as the awesome staff gets plans set for this family favorite.

As for new changes, the Friends of the Library was unable to host our usual York Uncorked this year. We are looking to do a fundraiser in the spring or summer. We always welcome new ideas, so please join us. The Friends of the Library wants to support our local Kilgore Memorial Library and would love more support from our community.
