1st Nebraska Volunteers Brass Band performs in York

Over 120 people enjoyed the musical arrangements from the Civil War Saturday afternoon at the York City Auditorium.

The free event, sponsored by the Anna Bemis Palmer Museum, showcased a group of 15 talented musicians from the Omaha area who want to keep alive the wonderful heritage of Civil War music.

They donned Union infantry uniforms while playing on authentic Civil War-era instruments. The performance also included a narration sharing Civil War stories.

Palmer Museum Coordinator, Carrie Remmers, said, “We had a great turnout with amazing community support, especially with the colder weather.”

Remmers also wanted to remind concert-goers and York-area citizens that the current “America At War” exhibit featured downtown will only be on display through February 29th, so everyone should make an effort to see this while they can.

The Anna Bemis Palmer Museum is located at 520 North Grant Avenue in York and their regular hours are Tuesday-Friday: 10am-4pm.
