York man charged after caught with cocaine

YORK – Jair Oropeza Ruiz, 33, of York (whose address is also listed as being Brewster, Washington) has been charged with a Class 4 felony after allegedly being caught with cocaine in York.

A York Police officer was on regular duty when he saw a vehicle parked alone at 300 E. Nobes Road. The officer approached he vehicle and spoke with Ruiz, who was inside the vehicle.

According to court documents, the officer allegedly saw a drug pipe in the console when Ruiz opened it to retrieve his identification.

During a probable cause search of the vehicle and Ruiz’s person, the officer allegedly found cocaine in his pocket.

He has been charged with possession of a controlled substance, which carries a possible maximum sentence of two years in prison with 12 months of post-release supervision, upon conviction.

Ruiz has pleaded not guilty and a jury trial was set for late April.
