Veterans Day Slum Feed set for Saturday

YORK – The annual Veterans Day Slum Feed, which has been ongoing for more than 100 years, will be held this coming Saturday, Nov. 11.

Again, it will be held at the York National Guard Armory.

Bolton Post 19 Commander Bill Hardy says set-up will start at 9:30 a.m. and at 10 a.m., veterans are invited to come in for coffee and rolls.

The Slum Feed meal will be served at noon, which is free for veterans. It will be followed by a special program at 1 p.m.

Freewill offerings will go toward the American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship and Girls State.

The Slum Feed menu, has it has been for many years, is reminiscent of food served to the troops during earlier wartimes. It includes beef stew, bread and prunes. The menu is jazzed up with salad, dessert and drinks.

Another feature of the Slum Feed is the remembrance of local veterans who have passed away since last year’s Veterans Day.

All veterans in York County are invited and encouraged to attend.
