Dukes win first set, but fall in four to Northwest in volleyball

YORK – The homestanding Dukes held the Vikings of Northwest down, refused to let them up and won the first set in Tuesday night’s volleyball match in impressive style, 25-18.

Then the worm turned.

The second two sets were dominated by the Vikings, 25-12 and 25-14. However, York acquitted itself well in the fourth and deciding set, finally losing by just two, 25-23.

No match stats were available for York.

The Dukes stand 9-20 on the season while Northwest, ranked No. 8 in Class B by the Omaha World-Herald, improve to 19-12.

The Dukes of coach Kelby Phillips return to the court Thursday at 7 p.m. in Schuyler.
