Design/bid/build contract signed for new fire station project

YORK – The City of York has signed off on a contract with The Schemmer Associates Inc. for design/bid/build work on the new fire station project.

This past week, Mayor Barry Redfern said he was excited the city is starting on the process.

York City Administrator Dr. Sue Crawford said the city received six bids for this contract and they interviewed the top three. She said the top three companies bid about exactly the same, “so it was really based on qualifications. This company really stood out and it is our recommendation we go with The Schemmer Associates.”

She said the city’s attorney, Charles Campbell, “was “very helpful in working out the negotiations.”

“I saw all the correspondence and I can say they thoroughly went through this process,” Redfern added.

York Fire Chief Tony Bestwick said this particular company is based in Texas with the architect being from Lincoln. “They have done 200 new fire stations in the last few years,” including one in Lincoln.

The council approved the contract which comes with a price tag of $703,245.
