More street construction in York

6th Street Road Construction in York, NE

YORK – The multiple-project 2023 street reconstruction effort in York continues.

Blackburn Avenue between 14th Street and Duke Drive was to be closed this week for surface reconstruction. The start date on that project has been postponed to Sept. 25. On that day, the stretch will be closed.

This project is expected to last three weeks, according to city offices.

Residents with driveways adjoining Blackburn Avenue will have to park on side streets outside of the construction area.

Meanwhile, work continues on Sixth Street between Nebraska and East Avenue. This project is one week in so far – it’s expected to last three to four weeks, depending on the weather.

These projects are part of the city’s ongoing effort to do numerous prioritized projects at one time – which makes each leg cheaper than if it would be done a year at a time. This “many at once” approach is also made possible by bonding which took place when interest rates were extremely low.
