Short jail time ordered for man with gym bags of marijuana in York County

YORK – A 23-year-old Omaha man who was initially charged with possession of marijuana in a trafficking situation after a traffic stop on Interstate 80 in York County has been sentenced to jail.

According to court documents, troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol stopped a vehicle with Georgia license plates due to traffic violations.

Brandon French was a passenger in the vehicle.

Troopers could smell the odor of marijuana, according to court documents, and a probable cause search was conducted.

During the search, troopers found gym bags that contained marijuana in amounts inconsistent with personal use.

He was initially charged with possession of a controlled substance, a Class 4 felony, but that was amended to attempt of a Class 4 felony, which is a Class 1 misdemeanor.

He was sentenced to 10 days in jail with credit for one day already served.
